Seezeitlodge at the Bostalsee

An unusual guidance system

One year after its opening, the hotel ranks among the 100 most beautiful hotels in Europe according to GEO SAISON 2/2018. The owners and hosts Kathrin and Christian Sersch created a place of inspiration that feels connected to the history of the landscape. For the orientation design, they wanted natural materials that fit perfectly into the architecture and the sensual concept of the Seezeitlodgee. Many traces of Celtic settlement can be found in Saarland. Not far from the Bostalsee, the Celtic ring wall rises. For the Celts the oak was sacred and the symbol of pure vitality and strength. Thus, the historically native oak tree was to play a leading role in the guidance system. It is thanks to a rather chance meeting of the owners with the guidance system specialist R. Meng from nearby Birkenfeld that this intention could be implemented in a very individual prototype. The basic idea of the signage concept was developed from oak planks and satin matt painted solid metal as the ideal inscription carrier. The precious oak, aged for over 30 years, was oiled after processing and installed for static stability in such a way that all contact points can dry ideally. To ensure that the signage system has a long service life, the surfaces were additionally coated with UV protection after inscription. The wood is exposed to its natural "greying". The guidance system realized by meng as a custom-made product is natural and sensual as it suits the Seezeitlodge - a visitor guidance system as unusual as the hotel concept itself.
